“Minor actors”, eh? They may be in for an unpleasant surprise, which serves them right anyway. But a diversion within a diversion is a nice touch. (We’ll still want an explanation of how they hid such a big force when the dust settles, but right now I’m just kicking back and enjoying the show.)
Is it just me or does Lady Orchid’s costume have something of a Gatchaman vibe? Doesn’t have the transparent bird beak visor, but her pointed mask still looks a bit like it. And, of course, the jagged cape.
I wonder who’s addressing Lady Orchid that way. Bobcat, perhaps? (He’s been conspicuously nowhere to be seen around Magnifica.) Blackbird or Roughhouse could do that kind of banter (if it is, and not a M.A.N.T.I.S. subordinate who’s had an idea). Maybe the fabled Reptilian too, but it sounds maybe a bit subdued for him. I’d expect something to the tune of “I’m going to adjust more than yer route” from him (yeah, took that from Calvin and Hobbes).
By the way, it only strikes me now: what’s the thematic connection between Orchid and mantises? (Not criticizing the writing here, more like wondering about the bad guys’ in-universe choice of names.)
Good banter between Silverback and Cry, who shows nice vulnerability after summoning reserves of spirit to “[boss] the big guy about”.
Last, Quarterback’s line makes me wonder if he’ll ask Cry or Magnifica for an autograph after the fight. Possibly even Silverback, or — if she unleashes enough power in the upcoming fight — Snowfall herself.
Oh, and in the second panel, Cry’s first speech bubble says “so I assume are all using” in the third line; I wonder if a word wasn’t lost somewhere, like maybe it should have been “so I assume *you* are all using”?
(Did I mention you can ignore and delete this? Maybe I didn’t. Well, now I just did.)

Orchid mantis. It’s a real thing. Very beautiful.
Ooh, I didn’t know that. Thanks for enlightening me!
