Mother Mantis sounds under the weather. I wonder if part of her motivation for getting the Venerator would be to cure whatever ails her.
I wonder how long it will take to activate the Venerator, and whether Silverback and company will get there in time.
On the one hand, the story is moving towards activation and M.A.N.T.I.S failing in that regard might look underwhelming to the readership (personally, I’d just be glad and move on to the next story arc). On the other hand, if the Venerator is activated, the Pantheon will have to do the same moves again. From there, either they succeed (possibly even more underwhelming than the Venerator not being activated at all, since Our Heroes don’t play a significant role), or they fail and Our Heroes have to step up in their stead, or they have to go with a different plan because Jonathan Silver (or Aura) notices something that will make the original plan pointless. Four possibilities (not counting what I haven’t thunk up); which one would people prefer?
Interesting that Lady Orchid calls Mother Mantis “master” and not “mistress”. Possibly because the latter word has alternate meanings (such as the woman with whom one cheats on one’s spouse)?
Oh, and is that an artificial right eye (no pupil) in the third panel?
I don’t know of such an ailment (it seems to me that the usual age-related one makes one’s pupil and iris white rather than green), which prompted my comment.

Artificial… or just one of several usually-age-related ailments of the eye. She is definitely being portrayed as elderly.
