I have wondered for a good while if he didn’t WANT to die like this – that he knew somewhere deep inside that he was horrible.
A few strips ago, as he told Marc what an idiot he was and how nothing could hold him, it was like he was making sure that they definitely would kill him. Not sure what else to make of that other than “please kill me!”
Of course, he also has ***MASSIVE*** pride, so it could just be that he feels justified or vindicated somehow, as well, enjoying goading the “heroes” into executing him, or that his pride allowed for nothing less.
I understand that the distress isn’t for Eggy but for the integrity of his heroes but it’s still a pretty funny response here.

He just found out that civilization is only made possible by carefully applied uses of lethal force. And there is no Santa Claus.
