Same place real-world terrorist organizations find recruits. There are always going to be some people who decide the only way to effect whatever social change they personally desire is to throw out society’s rules. This group is filled with people who actively believe the existing structure of (apparently mostly self-policing) superbeings is corrupt and oppressive to mundane humans and will do anything to change that no matter how awful – and see themselves as champions of humanity in doing so.
And really, “heroes” like the Sentry Seven probably help their recruitment quite a bit. I doubt they’re any better behaved toward civilians than they are toward their empowered peers.
I’ll add that real-world organizations also recruit among mellower people through other channels, by presenting a facade of assistance and solidarity within this or that group; over some time, the horrors visited upon that group are presented to the meek helper in a slow and sublte brainwash, until they conclude that, sadly, violence is the only way to make things better for their kin.
It’s a much longer process that could take a whole sub-arc and I don’t think we’ll see it here because it doesn’t strike me as the focus of this story (no criticism meant). Though Ann might go through such an arc yet. I don’t want that to happen to her because she’s really a honey, but sometimes in stories bad things do happen to good people…
It’s impressive how Amy looks wholesome and nice in the second and fourth panels (if maybe a bit arched in the back, but I guess a little seduction goes a long way, and subtle wouldn’t work with Kenny), and goes back to an evil grin in the last one.
Also, has Kenny been working out (usually, or to prepare for the mission)? He looks totally ripped. (Unless that suit has built-in abs for the looks? Like some actors wore in superhero films?)
And of course, “a man on the inside”. Speculations are starting to run rampant. I only hope it isn’t Cry.
Panel 4, 1st speech bubble.
Should read “…does their part,…”, not “there”
Good catch, thanks for the heads up!
Where does she find all these well-meaning-but-gullible stooges? Is there some catalog you can order them from or something?
there’s probably a facebook community for henchmen or somethin’? hahah

Quite so on both counts.
