Chapter: Volume 3; Schooled
Characters: Aura, Bulldog, Celtica, Cry, Dragonshard, Engine, Erebus, Jonathan Silver, Majesty, Redline, Royal Guard, Shift, Spitfire, The Hood, The Pantheon, Violet
Location: Invincible University
The Royal Guard “discovered” MANTIS had the Venerator? BS, Silver. Victor at SIDHE did that. All the Guard did was take a phone call from Oberon and pass it along to the Paragons. Quite sure Silver knows that too, so still more lies like the massive memory modification of most of the planet’s population. Such a damn supervillain.
Well, it’s an open secret that SIDHE and the Guard aren’t on the best of terms, and Silver is (after rudely teleporting them) showing the Guard as worthy members of this illustrious crowd, so he’s ignoring SIDHE’s role to shed more light on the Guard.
Unethical, for sure, but it might just be politics.
(Then again, there’s only so many “that’s just politics” until you actually work like a villain. Still not sure you’re right, but still watching him closely.)
Beautiful round of portraits here, with nice contrasts: silver and gold, white and black, smooth red and fierce red (and fierce tan), medieval legend and modern magic, ancient druidic tradition and hypertechnology, finishing with the possibly three most alien individuals of both bunches.
I note that Celtica relaxes in the middle (fifteenth if you’re counting) panel. I guess being a super-tough magic lady has its perks.
Also, I’m not sure how to read Jonathan Silver’s expression in the first panel. He strikes me as condescending, but it isn’t consistent with the rest of his behaviour here (I mean, he can refrain from looking bad in front of a crowd). Unless it’s just an amused smile at half the Guard’s, well, guarded reaction to the teleport? (Of course, that may well be the first actual clue that he’s a supervillain as Dick says.)
