Couldn’t have said it better, sibling. (Although I tried, see my wordier comment.)
The single one issue I have with the speech is saying she isn’t responsible for what happened. Yes, she is, because she’s the one who let it happen. But it doesn’t make her guilty. There’s a rather fine distinction, but one that should be made. (I’m not blaming Silverback, mind. He has to give an impromptu pep speech after hearing a distressed friend tell the story of how terrible her life has become; using one single word instead of another that, in my opinion, would be better, is all right by me under those conditions. God knows I’d be stuttering for hours.)
Pages like this are what make this comic beautiful. The story is very well done, the characters are strongly fleshed out and believable, the action is gripping… but the feelings? Even all that said they’re head and shoulders above the rest of the comic.
Thank you, dear sir, from the bottom of my heart, for this speech and these characters.
Somewhere, Clark and Steve are grading this speech an A+.
