Yeah, this is all very valid. This is probably the best way they could have handled this situation. I’m on board. Sorry, Marc.

The guy murdered HOW many people? And is **COMPLETELY** unrepentant and will definitely do so again if given the chance?

Are you completely utterly certain you can keep him from getting the chance again? Because otherwise, the lowest body-count available is “1”, and it’s him.

And if you keep him alive and he gets out and kills more people, **that’s on you**. Yes, I’m looking at you, Batman.

To be fair, it’s not Batman’s responsibility to be an executioner. The Joker is a failure on the part of the state, not Batman. That’s why what’s going on here makes sense. These people are, I’m pretty sure, empowered by their government. They are authorized on matters of life and death and aren’t going to force those decisions on what’s basically a civilian volunteer.

“To be fair, it’s not Batman’s responsibility to be an executioner. The Joker is a failure on the part of the state, not Batman. ”

Morally, it’s on everyone involved, from the lowliest guard and up. And Batman comes into contact with him by far the most.

Out here in the real world, where all the “extras” that get killed by the villains actually have names, families, etc, the Joker would have been “killed while trying to escape” at some point (5th time? 10th time? 50th time?!??!? take your pick), probably involving several dozen bullets at point blank range while completely restrained, and the person or people who did it would have been publicly mildly reprimanded (and most) and semi-privately lauded (and probably rewarded).

(Of course, out here in the real world, the Joker would have died in one of the many, *many* firefights he gets in, so it would not really have mattered.)

I don’t envy Marc’s situation. He’s a good boy and keeps trying to do the right thing. That’s what pushes him to victory, after all, but now his fine, upstanding morals run up against a nightmarishly powerful human predator and a team of supers who are all too aware of their limits. I don’t see Marc taking this lying down but, in his current shape, I expect he’s just going to have to watch Majesty and/or Dragonshard kill (murder?) a defenseless supervillain. This out to be good!

The term you’re looking for is “execute”.

Legally, one might be able to argue that it is murder (though probably not – they probably have some pretty serious legal stuff going on behind the scenes), but morally, if execution can possibly ever be just (which only a tiny, vanishingly-small number of *really* believe in their heart of hearts), this is it.

Yeah, this is really the only way.

He murdered countless innocents *AND* did much much worse to even more innocents. The dead victims are the lucky ones. My main problem with the death penalty is that it represents “getting away with it” and most of the criminals it is applied to deserve worse, and that definitely applies to the Eggster, he is just too dangerous. It’s not so much an execution as putting down a rabid animal.
